Crystal Growing
Crystal growing involves the manufacturing and preparation of monocrystals and polycrystals for specific purposes. In scientific terms, the growing of crystals can be attributed to the disciplines of physical chemistry and crystallography. Crystals are mainly grown for the methodical and experimental management and control of the crystallisation process. The wide variety of substances used for growing crystals and their different physical and chemical properties have resulted in many different growing methods. The choice of the most suitable method and the selection and design of the apparatus determine the physical and chemical properties of crystals to be grown and the use to which they are to be put.
The main focus in the development of crystal growing methods is on providing crystals for use in technical industries, primarily in electronics and optoelectronics, where specific material properties are crucial in the choice of substances. Crystalline materials need to be produced that can satisfy these key requirements.
